MIXED MEDIA EXHIBITION

Supported by Ipswich Paint Place and Resene Paints, this exciting exhibition demonstrated artistic individuality, aesthetic sensibilities and techniques using a variety of mediums. The exhibition was of special interest to anyone interested in bold, beautiful colour, mixed media, expressive and objective artwork. It showcased over 40 new works Karen had created over the previous six months
Karen Oberg said about her work, “This series is designed to be fresh, unstructured and spontaneous. The works entice the viewer’s eye to weave endlessly through the maze of colour and texture. Like most artists I paint because of an overwhelming compulsion to do so. Life without painting would be unthinkable. The inspiration for this exhibition comes from our environment. For me, creating an atmosphere or conveying a feeling that is interesting and symbolic of the world around us is the basis of this exhibition.”
The works use vivid colours which culminate in curious, rich spaces where the viewer can become immersed in a dreamscape. Fish are one constant theme in a number of works in the exhibition. This love of the sea is evident in Karen’s work in all mediums.
“Living on the water as a child, I was constantly aware of the curvaceous lines and movement within the sea and the natural landscape. I hope the qualities exhibited by my contemporary artwork will inspire the viewer to reinvigorate their attitudes toward, colour in nature.”
Many who know Karen’s traditional land and seascapes are surprised by her adventurous colourful works in mixed media. “I have meshed new technologies and products with traditions to create an artistic exploration. I'm intrigued by the use of different materials and paints, this work sends me in a new direction of artistic development but it won’t take me away totally from my love of traditional landscapes as seen in my past exhibitions.”
The exhibition was very successful with almost half the works sold in three days.
Some works from the Exhibition can still be viewed by appointment by calling Karen on 0410 269530
