□ The Joys of Drawing in Charcoal – Karen Oberg - – Open to beginners

The joy of using charcoal as a drawing medium lies in its spontaneity and sensitivity. One can make marks with it which are very painterly, as if with a brush, or one can make fairly technical drawings. Charcoal is probably the oldest, or one of the oldest, art materials. It was, after all, what our pre-historic ancestors used while drawing on cave walls! It's ease of manufacture and use make it an essential tool for all artists.

After learning the basics, many pencil artists seem to stall out and are left wondering how to make their drawing more life-like. No matter what your subject, adding texture and contrast will also add depth and realism to your drawings. This one day workshop is geared for the beginner students that wish to learn techniques that will take their drawing to a new level of realism. The emphasis will be on tone, shading and texture techniques using graphite, carbon, charcoal and various blending and masking techniques. All materials are included.

Examples of the instructor's work will be available for close scrutiny, and questions about specific techniques will be answered and demonstrated. Students are also encouraged to bring previous work in all stages of completion for constructive critique. All supplies are included for each workshop and detailed demonstrations with hands on instruction will guide each student as to their particular use. Workshop $95.00 per person.  All Materials included.
